CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) -Donte Minter and Donald Sims scored 13 points apiece to lead five double-figure scorers for Appalachian State, which beat Western Carolina 69-64 on Saturday night.

Eduardo Bermudez had 11 points and Kellen Brand and Ryann Abraham added 10 apiece for the Mountaineers (14-7, 9-3 Southern Conference), who have won nine of 10 games and claimed their eighth straight victory in the bitter rivalry between schools in western North Carolina.

Brandon Giles had 19 points and reached double figures for the 12th straight game to lead the Catamounts (6-15, 2-9), who have dropped three straight and eight of 10.

Brand gave the Mountaineers the lead for good when his jumper with 1:56 left made it 62-60, and Minter added a basket 51 seconds later made it 64-61.

After Abraham hit a free throw, Giles knocked down a 3-pointer with 21 seconds left to make it 65-64, and Appalachian State made four free throws in the final 18 seconds to clinch it.
