KATY, Texas (AP) -Kevin Sims scored 22 points as Tulane won its fifth straight game by beating Rice 84-77 on Saturday night and keeping the Owls winless in Conference USA.

Sims went 13-of-16 from the free throw line for Tulane (15-6, 5-2), which took took a 39-33 halftime lead then shot 68 percent from the field to close out the game.

Rice (3-17, 0-7) pulled to with 42-41 early in the second half before David Gomez followed a missed shot with a putback to start an 18-7 run for Tulane.

Gomez finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, and Asim McQueen added 15 points on 7-of-7 shooting for the Green Wave. McQueen scored 12 of his 15 in the second half, including a dunk that put Tulane up 80-64 with 2:57 remaining.

Rice couldn't keep up with Tulane's hot shooting in the second half, hitting just 43 percent from the field. Rodney Foster led the Owls with 24 points, going 11-of-12 from the free throw line.
