LOS ANGELES (AP) -Scott Cutley scored 19 points with 11 rebounds and Cal State Fullerton defeated Cal State Northridge 80-72 Saturday despite missing 13 of its first 15 second-half field goals.
Cutley made good on seven of his 10 field-goal attempts as the Titans (15-5, 7-2 Big West) defeated the Matadors (14-6, 7-1) for the eighth consecutive time.
Josh Akognon scored 10 of his 17 points via free throws and Frank Robinson put in six of his 14 the same way. The two combined to make just 6 of 25 field-goal attempts, including just 3 of 15 from beyond the 3-point arc. Robinson also had 10 rebounds.
The Titans made just 9 of 27 attempts in the second half and shot 40 percent from the field (26 of 65).
Northridge overcame a 46-37 halftime deficit with a 21-5 run to start the second half.
Tremaine Townsend scored 10 of his 12 points in that span as the Matadors took a 58-51 lead with 10 minutes, 33 seconds to play. But after Josh Jenkins' driving layup gave Northridge a 68-64 lead, Cutley and Robinson combined for 12 of Fullerton's final 16 points.
Jonathan Heard led Northridge with 13 points. Jenkins had 10 points and eight assists, and Deon Tresvant added 10 points for the Matadors, who shot 37 percent (27 of 73).
