GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -Drew Gibson's two free throws with 3.2 seconds left lifted Wofford past North Carolina-Greensboro 59-56 on Thursday night.
Shane Nichols scored 21 points to lead the Terriers, and Gibson - who beat UNC Greensboro with a late 3-pointer in December - finished with 11.
The Spartans had two chances to tie it in the final moments. With his team trailing 57-55, Kyle Hines hit 1-of-2 free throws with eight seconds left to make it a one-point game. Then, after Gibson knocked down his foul shots, Hines' 3-pointer at the buzzer bounced off the rim.
Wofford (14-9, 7-6 Southern Conference) has six wins in seven games, swept the regular-season series and won at Fleming Gym for the first time since 1999.
Hines had 22 points, 12 rebounds and a school-record-tying seven blocks for UNC Greensboro (13-8, 7-5). He recorded his 11th double-double of the season and the 42nd of his career, finished with his 71st straight double-figure scoring game and moved within eight points of 2,000 for his career.
The Spartans had trouble from the free-throw line, making just seven of their 18 attempts. They were 7-for-15 from the stripe in a loss at Georgia Southern, and four of UNC Greensboro's five conference losses have come in the final 40 seconds of those games.
