THIBODAUX, La. (AP) -Lamar scored their last 14 points from the free throw line as the Cardinals edged past Nicholls State for a 72-68 overtime Southland Conference win on Thursday night.

The teams, which each shot similar percentages from the floor, entered the extra period tied at 61.

Lamar (12-8, 6-1) only had one field goal attempt in the extra period - a misfired three-pointer by Kenny Dawkins. The difference in the game came at the free throw line where the Cardinals connected on 21-of-35 compared to 13-of-22 for the Colonels.

Kenny Dawkins led Lamar with 20 points, while Lamar Sanders had 14.

Ryan Bathie scored a game-high 22 points, including five 3-pointers, in the loss. The only other Colonel in double-figures was Anatoly Bose, who had 18 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double.

It was the second straight overtime loss at home for the Colonels (6-17, 1-7), who were held to 39.3 percent (24-of-61) from the field. Lamar shot 38.9 percent (21-of-54) for the game.
