PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (ap) -Freshman point guard Marc Davis scored 20 points, including 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the final minute, to help Maryland-Eastern Shore to a 59-56 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win Saturday over Howard.

Howard (5-18, 2-7) led 25-14 lead in the first half, but a 10-0 Hawks run cut the lead to 25-24 by the break. In the second half, the Bison led until the 12:21 mark when full-court pressure by UMES led to a turnover and a Gary Lee 3-pointer that gave the Hawks the lead for good 36-35 with 11:26 left.

Ed Tyson added 18 points for the Hawks on 5-of-14 shooting and Gary Lee pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Eugene Wyatt and Curtis White led Howard with 16 points each while sophomore center Paul Kirkpatrick had 10 points and eight rebounds. White was 5-of-10 from behind the 3-point arc.

The Hawks (3-21, 1-8 ), who entered the game shooting a MEAC low 34 percent from the field, were 18-of-47 from the field.
