DAVIS, Calif. (AP) -Tremaine Townsend scored 21 points and grabbed 22 rebounds Saturday as Cal State Northridge outlasted UC Davis 77-57 to remain in a first-place tie with Pacific in the Big West.
Townsend scored 18 of his 21 after halftime as the Matadors (16-6, 8-2 Big West) pulled away from the last-place Aggies. Townsend's rebounding total was the most by a Big West player this year and two short of the a school record.
Despite his big night, this was a close game for a long time. Northridge led 48-46 with 11 minutes, 17 seconds remaining.
The Matadors then hit 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions to start a 20-4 run. Northridge recorded 17 steals in the game and forced UC Davis (8-15, 2-8) into 22 turnovers overall.
Calvin Chitwood scored 13 points on 5-for-5 shooting and Deon Tresvant added 12 points for Northridge.
Dominic Calegari scored 18 points to lead the Aggies. David Carter added 17 points, his third consecutive game with 17 points. UC Davis has lost six straight.
