JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -James Grimball scored 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead North Florida to a 67-57 win over Savannah State on Tuesday.
Grimball had a double-double by halftime as he scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the first 20 minutes. He made 7-of-9 field goal attempts and converted 4-of-6 shots at the foul line in 31 minutes of play.
The Ospreys (2-22) held a 12-point lead with less than two minutes remaining but had to survive a late Tigers rally which cut the margin to seven with 40 seconds to play. Three North Florida players then sank a pair of free throws each to put the game out of reach and secure North Florida's first win in 88 days.
Savannah State (11-17) held a 27-26 lead at halftime. The Tigers stretched it to three points early in the second half, but North Florida took the lead at the 13:25 mark on a layup by Tom Hammonds and never trailed after that. Their largest lead was 13 points at 55-42 with 4:22 remaining in the game.
The Ospreys got a game-high 20 points from reserve Cortez Riley, 14 of which came in the second half.
Savannah State was led by Joseph Flegler with 18 points.
