Saint Louis 63, George Washington 38

ST. LOUIS (AP) -Low-scoring Bryce Husak and Dwayne Polk combined for 27 points and six 3-pointers, helping Saint Louis shake the memory of the worst showing in the shot clock era in a 63-38 victory over George Washington on Wednesday night.

Saint Louis was a season-best 14-for-27 from 3-point range in the second meeting against the Colonials, who beat them 49-20 on Jan. 10 in Washington, D.C.

The Billikens (14-10, 5-5 Atlantic-10) were 1-for-19 from 3-point range in their horrid first meeting against George Washington, connecting on their final attempt, but were one off the school record in the rematch.

The 7-foot Husak, who averages 5.6 points, had 15 points and was 2-for-2 from 3-point range, doubling his season total. The 5-foot-9 Polk, who averages 2.3 points and has been scoreless in 11 games, hit a career best four 3-pointers in five attempts and scored 12 points for his first time in double figures this season.

George Washington (6-14, 2-8) was held to 26.9 percent shooting, has lost eight of nine, and is 0-10 on the road. Rob Diggs had 14 points, but on 5-for-14 shooting for the losers, whose scoring total was two points better than their season worst in a 32-point loss at Virginia Tech on Dec. 9.

Kevin Lisch added 11 points, six assists and five rebounds for Saint Louis, which led by as many as 29 points in the second half.

Saint Louis had as many 3-pointers in the first half of the rematch, going 7-for-14, as it had points in the opening 20 minutes of the first meeting while taking a commanding 30-14 lead.

The Billikens needed only 3:21 to match their paltry first-half total from the Jan. 10 disaster. All the early scoring came from Husak on a three-point play, a left-handed hook and a midrange jumper from the baseline.

Saint Louis recovered after going nearly six minutes without a point later in the half and blew past its 20-point game total from the first meeting with 5:12 to go during a 17-0 run that featured four 3-pointers and put the Billikens ahead 27-10 with 2:46 left.
