CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -Tony White Jr. and Andrew Goudelock each scored 17 points to lead the College of Charleston to a 79-73 win over Chattanooga on Thursday night.
The Cougars (12-13, 7-8 Southern Conference) led 48-34 with just under 17 minutes left in the game before the Mocs (15-11, 10-6) began slowly chipping away at the lead.
Chattanooga trailed 72-69 after Marcus Watts' layup with 2:04 to go, but Charleston hit seven of its 10 free throws in the final two minutes to secure the win.
The loss kept the Mocs from moving into a tie for second place in the SoCon's North Division.
The Cougars shot 44.4 percent (24-of-54) from the field, compared to 34.1 percent (28-of-62) for the Mocs. Charleston was 21-of-29 from the foul line, while Chattanooga made 10 of its 14 free throws.
The good shooting helped the Cougars overcome 20 turnovers.
Kevin Bridgewaters scored 21 points and Nicchaeus Doaks added 20 points and 16 rebounds for the Mocs.
Jermaine Johnson added 13 points and 10 rebounds for Charleston, who had five players in double-figures.
