GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -Kyle Hines scored 26 points on 11-for-15 shooting as North Carolina-Greensboro used a hot shooting hand in the second half for a 79-55 victory over Appalachian State.

The Spartans (14-10, 8-7 Southern Conference) shot 48.3 percent in the first half to run up a 35-26 edge. Their accuracy improved to 59.1 percent on 13-of-22 shooting in the second half to run up a lead that reached as much as 28 against the Mountaineers (16-12, 11-6).

Donte Minter's layup at 14:54 gave Appalachian State an early 8-7 lead, but Kendall Toney's jumper 20 seconds later gave UNC-Greensboro the lead for good. A 13-4 run ensued to give the Spartans a double-digit edge, but the Mountaineers closed the half on an 8-2 surge that drew them closer.

Baskets by Hines and Ben Stywall to open the second half stretched the halftime lead and Appalachian State never got the gap below double-digits. The Mountaineers shot 42.9 percent in the last 20 minutes, which was actually better than their 40.9 percent effort in the first half.

Stywall had 15 and Toney 14 for the Spartans. Minter's 12 led Appalachian State.
