GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -Austin Ewing scored 22 points, and North Carolina A&T used a strong shooting performance to take a 95-85 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday.
The Aggies (13-11, 7-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) took advantage of a hot hand in the first half to run up a 48-31 lead, and that was the difference. The edge was built on 59.3 percent field goal shooting, compared to 37 percent shooting for the Hawks (4-22, 2-9).
Both teams heated up in the second half. UMES hit 61.1 percent of its shots, while North Carolina A&T improved on the opening half with a 63 percent effort. The Aggies led by as much as 17 late in the second half.
Ewing hit 5 of 6 shots, including four 3-pointers in five tries. He also hit all eight free throws he attempted. The Aggies hit only 18 of 30 free throw tries.
Steven Rush scored 19, Jason Wills had 18 and Glenn Nelson added 13 for the Aggies.
Ed Tyson hit all five of his 3-point shots and scored a game-high 30 points for the Hawks. Gary Lee scored 17, Ishmawlyl McFadden had 13 and B.J. Nimocks 10 for UMES.
