Richmond 69, Duquesne 66

PITTSBURGH (AP) -David Gonzalvez shot 5-for-6 from 3-point range while scoring 17 points and Richmond slowed Duquesne to its pace in a 69-66 victory Saturday night.

The Spiders (13-10, 6-4 in Atlantic 10) also got 15 points from Dan Geriot in ending Duquesne's three-game winning streak. The Dukes (16-8, 6-5) had scored more than 100 points twice during their streak and also upset Dayton on Wednesday night.

Duquesne, denied a chance to reach the 17-victory mark for the first time since its last previous winning season in 1993-94, shot only 38.3 percent (18-of-47) to Richmond's 51 percent (25-of-49) in losing its 11th in a row to the Spiders.

The Dukes trailed 64-57 with 1:24 remaining but, after Aaron Jackson scored inside and Bill Clark hit a 3-pointer with 6.4 seconds remaining, had a chance to tie it but Jackson missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Clark had 15 and Reggie Jackson 12 for Duquesne, which was 5-of-21 on 3s to Richmond's 11-of-16. Richmond came in shooting only 34.3 percent beyond the arc.

Jackson, who averaged 17.7 during the Dukes' winning streak, was held to nine points - all but two in the final 3:11 of play, as Duquesne tried to rally from a 12-point deficit with 5 1/2 minutes remaining.

Gonzalvez's fifth and final 3 was a desperation, fallaway shot from seven feet beyond the arc with 6-foot-10 Shawn James guarding him closely and the shot clock about to run down - the Spiders' fourth 3-pointer in as many baskets, making 55-45. Kevin Smith followed by scoring on an uncontested baseline drive the next time down, pushing the lead to 12.

Kevin Anderson added 11 points and Oumar Sylla had 10 for the Spiders, who won their ninth in 13 games. They pulled away from a 14-all tie midway through the first half to take a 34-24 lead on successive baskets by Geriot and never trailed again.
