ROCK HILL, SC (AP) -Michael Jenkins scored a season-high 28 points and Chris Gaynor added 16 as Winthrop beat Radford 74-59 in Big South Conference action Saturday.
With the win, Winthrop (17-9, 8-3 Big South) moves ahead of North Carolina Asheville into first place in the league standings.
The Eagles trailed 12-0 and didn't score until 14:46 left in the half when Jenkins hit the first of his five 3-pointers. Winthrop got back in the game and went on an 8-4 run at the end of the half to take a 30-26 lead at the break.
Winthrop increased the lead to as many as 15 points with 7:20 left in the game, but the Highlanders (8-17, 3-7) battled back, twice getting to within seven in the final two minutes.
Amir Johnson led Radford with 21 points and Joey Lynch-Flohr added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Kenny Thomas added 11 points.
Chris Gaynor had 16 points, six assists and three steals.
