WASHINGTON (AP) -Garrison Carr scored 16 points and American held off Army 49-40 on Wednesday to extend its winning streak to six games, the program's longest in the regular season in 20 years.
Trailing American (17-10, 9-3 Patriot League) 23-11 late in the first half, the Black Knights started a 9-2 run that carried into the second half when Corban Bates made a desperation, halfcourt 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Army (11-14, 4-7) tied the game 32-32 when Jarell Brown hit a pull-up 3-pointer on the run with just under 11 minutes left. But American jumped ahead with a 5-0 run while the Black Knights went four minutes without a basket. The Eagles' lead never shrank below 3 the rest of the game, and they won despite shooting a season-low 28.2 percent.
Brown scored 12 and Doug Williams had 11 rebounds to lead Army, which dropped its season-worst third straight and scored 14 points in the first half, the fewest this year.
