LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) -Michael Jenkins scored 17 points and four other players hit in double digits as Winthrop beat VMI 80-70 Wednesday night.
Chris Gaynor added 15 points for Winthrop (18-9, 9-3 Big South), Taj McCullough scored 13, Antwon Harris had 12 and Byron Faison had 11.
Reggie Williams led VMI (13-12, 5-6 Big South) with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Williams became VMI's all-time leading scorer with 2,430 career points, surpassing Gay Elmore's 2,423 points.
Winthrop led 33-28 at the break, and McCullough's layup sparked a 12-0 run that increased the Eagles' lead to 49-37 with 11:41 left in the game.
VMI struggled with cold shooting, making only 37.1 percent (23-of-62) of its shots from the floor and 19.4 percent (7 of 36) from 3-point range. Winthrop shot 54.7 percent (29-of-53) from the floor and 45.5 percent (5-0f-11) from 3-point range.
