WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) -T.J. Carter scored 12 straight points in a second-half run as North Carolina-Wilmington built a big lead and held off Georgia State for a 79-72 victory Wednesday night.
The Seahawks (18-10, 11-5 Colonial Athletic Association) took the lead for good on Carter's 3-pointer with 2:54 left in the first half for a 36-35 edge that grew to 41-37 at halftime.
Carter's personal streak and a jumper in the lane by Todd Hendley with 9:40 left to go gave the Seahawks their biggest lead at 64-47. The Panthers (7-19, 4-12) chipped away at the deficit, making a 15-4 run capped by Trae Goldston's 3-pointer with 4:57 left to close to 68-62. Deven Dickerson's jumper with 24 seconds left drew Georgia State closer at 73-69, but a pair of free throws by Hendley and a dunk off the fast break by Vladimir Kuljanin, who had 12 points, held off the rally.
Goldston had a game-high 22 points, and Michael Moynihan added 19 for the Panthers.
