ELON, N.C. (AP) -Montell Watson's three-point play with 3 seconds remaining in the second overtime lifted Elon past the College of Charleston 87-86 on Wednesday night.
In a game that featured 12 ties and 14 lead changes, Jermaine Johnson gave the Cougars their final lead of the night when his two free throws made it 86-84. But Johnson drove the lane and was fouled while making a layup to win it.
Watson finished with 22 points to lead four double-figure scorers for Elon (11-16, 9-10 Southern Conference).
Ola Atoyebi had 15 points, Brett James added 13 and Brian Waters scored 11 for the Phoenix, whose bench outscored Charleston's 24-6.
Johnson had 20 points, Andrew Goudelock scored 18 and Tony White and Antwaine Wiggins scored 17 apiece for Charleston (12-15, 7-10).
