RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) -Larry Cunningham scored 21 points as UC Riverside outlasted UC Irvine 85-76 Wednesday night in a Big West Conference game.
UC Riverside (6-17, 3-9) shot 58 percent (29-of-50) from the field and out rebounded UC Irvine (11-14, 6-6) 34-20.
The Highlanders built an 18-point lead early in the second half, but watched the Anteaters pull within one point, 70-69, with three minutes to play.
Riverside made 8 of 10 free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.
Brett Lauer seven 3-pointers in the second half and led Irvine with 25 points. Darren Fells added 19 points and eight rebounds.
Christian Soto scored 13 points and Cleavon Barlow and Severin Gates each scored 10 points for Riverside.
