BALTIMORE (AP) -Tywain McKee scored 19 points and collected 12 rebounds as Coppin State beat Hampton 72-55 Saturday for its sixth-straight win.
McKee, who entered the season never having posted a double-double had his second in the last five games for Coppin State (10-19, 5-8 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), which shot 50.0 percent from the floor in the second half and limited Hampton to 30.8 percent shooting. Hampton (15-10, 8-4) out-rebounded Coppin State 56-45, but committed 26 turnovers and made only 14-of-34 free throw attempts.
The Eagles also received 17 points from Julian Conyers and 11 from Antwan Harrison. Hampton was paced by Matthew Pilgrim who scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Hampton opened the second half on a 7-0 run keyed by five points from Pilgrim to trim the Coppin State lead to 28-26 with 17:11 to play in the game. McKee answered with a 3-pointer that sparked a 15-2 run and increased the lead to 43-28 with 10:15 remaining in the game. Coppin State held its largest lead of the game at 59-35 when Robert Pressey converted a layup with 7:01 left.
