NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -Brian Laing's turnaround basket with 16.2 remaining broke a 71-71 tie and Seton Hall held off DePaul 73-71 Saturday night, snapping a five-game losing streak.
Laing finished with a game-high 22 points, including a career high-tying five three-pointers, and Jamar Nutter scored all of his 15 points on threes for the Pirates (16-11, 6-8), who never trailed but withstood a furious rally by a similarly desperate Blue Demons (10-16, 6-8).
DePaul missed twice late to tie or win the game. A long inbounds pass with around two seconds left was defended well by the Pirates and a shot was never attempted.
Draelon Burns, the fifth-leading scorer in the Big East, badly missed at an attempt to tie with about 10 seconds remaining for DePaul (10-16, 5-9), which has lost seven of eight. Burns finished 3-of-10 with nine points, his lowest total since a loss to Georgetown on Jan. 8.
The two teams combined for 20 three-pointers.
Will Walker made all five of his three-pointers as he single-handily kept the Blue Demons in the game from outside. The sophomore was 7-of-12 from the floor and scored 20 points, one shy of a career-high.
Seton Hall's John Garcia posted 10 points and six rebounds (four offensive boards), including two made free throws and a bank shot over Mac Koshwal to make it 71-66.
Seton Hall shot 50 percent (15-of-30) and led by as many as 10 points twice. Jeremy Hazell scored nine points.
