CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) -Darren Hopkins scored 17 points, including 12 on 3-pointers, to lead Lamar past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Wednesday, 79-72.
Hopkins led five Cardinals in double figures. Lamar Sanders, Kenny Dawkins and Justin Nabors each had 12 points and Currye Todd added 10 for Lamar (18-8, 12-1 Southland).
It was the 11th straight win for Lamar.
Lamar never trailed, leading by as many as 17 with 8:50 to go. But with about five minutes left, the Islanders scored the next 12 points in a row. The Islanders' Justin Reynolds keyed the comeback with a layup, then after a steal he hit the Islanders' next bucket, a 3-pointer, to close the game to 72-69. But Lamar's Currye Todd answered with a 3-pointer with 1:14 remaining, and a layup by Justin Nabors and free throws by Kenny Dawkins sealed the game for the Cardinals.
The Islanders (8-18, 5-8) were led by Reynolds' 22 points and 10 rebounds. Kevin Perkins scored 12 and Chris Daniels added 10 points.
