NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) -Josh Alexander's 20 points led Stephen F. Austin to a 71-56 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday night.
Matt Kingsley and Gerald Fonzie added 16 points each for the Lumberjacks (24-4, 12-3 Southland), who held an opponent under 60 points for the 19th time this year.
The Lumberjacks secured the No. 2 spot in the Southland Conference tournament. The Islanders' loss eliminated them from the tournament.
Justin Reynolds led Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Daniels scored 14 and Tim Green added 10 for the Islanders (8-20, 3-11).
The Lumberjacks took the lead at 7-4 and never trailed again, leading by as many 21 points with 5:34 to play. They took advantage of 10 steals, creating 20 points off Islander turnovers.
The Islanders kept the game close in the first half, shooting 72 percent from the field, but they still trailed 44-32 at the end of the period. Stephen F. Austin opened the second half with two consecutive 3-pointers by Gerald Fonzie to jump to an 18-point lead. Fonzie hit 4-of-8 3-pointers in the game.
