DENTON, Texas (AP) -Adam McCoy was perfect from the field Wednesday night, scoring a career-high 21 points as North Texas defeated Arkansas State 85-63 in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference tournament.
McCoy hit all eight of his shots from the field, including five 3-pointers. He didn't attempt any free throws. McCoy had two 3-pointers during a 16-7 run midway through the first half.
Keith Wooden added 14 points and Ben Bell and Josh White each had 12 for North Texas (20-10), which advances to face Western Kentucky on Sunday in Mobile, Ala. Harold Stewart had nine points and nine rebounds.
Adrian Banks led Arkansas State (10-20) with 17 points. Ryan Wedel added 14.
