NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Ben Smith scored 27 points to lead second-seeded Jacksonville to an 89-80 victory over sixth-seeded Gardner-Webb Friday night in the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament.
The Dolphins (18-12) will face the winner of Friday's other semifinal between No. 1 seed Belmont and East Tennessee State on Saturday at 6 p.m. CST.
Jacksonville quickly rolled out to a 16-3 lead in the first half, behind eight points from Smith and never looked back in besting the Bulldogs (16-16).
The Dolphins made 16 of 28 shots (57 percent) in the first half, capped by a 40-foot shot at the halftime buzzer by Andre McMillan.
Lehmon Colbert added 19 points for Jacksonville, while Marcus Allen finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Gardner-Webb's Thomas Sanders scored a game-high 29 points for the Bulldogs, who never led and trailed by as many as 22 points with 14:26 to play. Grayson Flittner added 15 and Nate Blank 13 for Gardner-Webb.
