VESTAL, N.Y. (AP) -Ricky Lucas had 18 points, six rebounds and four steals in a play-in game Friday night to lead Stony Brook to a 73-65 overtime win over Maine and a spot in the America East Tournament quarterfinals.
Three Seawolves scored in double figures off the bench: Nick Carter had 16 points, Demetrius Young had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Mitchell Beauford had 11 points including four in overtime.
The eighth-seeded Seawolves (7-22, 3-0 against Maine) will play regular season-champion Maryland-Baltimore County (21-8) in the first of the four games Saturday.
Maine, seeded ninth, ended its season with seven straight losses, 10 in the last 11 games to finish at 7-23.
Stony Brook wiped out an 11-point second-half deficit and held Maine without a field goal for most of the final 9:46, leading by three in the closing seconds. But Mark Socoby banked home a 3-pointer from beyond the top of the key with 4.2 seconds remaining to force overtime.
The Seawolves, who used an 8-0 run to tie the game at 50-50 with 6:32 left in regulation, quickly broke the game open in overtime, where they went 8-for-8 from the foul line to send home the Black Bears, guilty of 20 turnovers.
Socoby had two 3-pointers for Maine in overtime and finished with a career-high 30 points.
