VESTAL, N.Y. (AP) -Darryl Proctor scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Cavell Johnson came off the bench with 15 points Saturday to lift top-seeded Maryland-Baltimore County to a 76-60 victory over Stony Brook in the first quarterfinal game of the America East Tournament.

Jay Greene, who joined Proctor on the All-Conference team announced Friday, had 12 assists and nine points to help the Retrievers (22-8) advance to Saturday's semifinal against No. 4 Vermont.

UMBC, which had 23 assists on 30 baskets, has won 10 of its last 11 games.

Senior Ricky Lucas scored 18 points for the second straight game for Stony Brook, which advanced to the quarterfinals with an overtime win over Maine in Friday night's play-in game. The eighth-seeded Seawolves finished the season with a 7-23 record.

UMBC was 9-for-14 from 3-point range in the first 17 minutes to take control of the game.

The Retrievers, who broke the game open with an 18-2 run over a 7:04 span through the middle of the half, led by as many as 22 points, with 7:03 remaining.

Proctor was 7-for-9 from the floor and also had five assists.

Matt Spadafora added 14 points and Ray Barbosa 11 for UMBC, while senior Emanuel Neto added 13 points and five assists for the Seawolves.
