ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -Jason Thompson scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Rider survived a second-half scare with a 75-71 win over Canisius in the quarterfinal round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday night.
The second-seeded Broncs (22-9), who briefly lost the lead at the nine-minute mark and twice saw the score tied in the final five minutes, advance to Sunday?s semifinal round.
Harris Mansell and Justin Robinson added 13 points apiece in the win.
Greg Logins had a game-high 20 points for Canisius. Frank Turner added 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
Rider, which beat Canisius 102-51 earlier this season, let a 15-point first-half edge slip away when Logins drained a 3-pointer to make it 60-59 Canisius with 8:51 to go.
The Golden Griffins (6-25) also tied it at 66 and 71 before Patrick Mansell put the Broncs up for good with a 3-pointer that made it 74-71 with 1:08 remaining.
