BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -Andrew Hayles and Roland Fitch had 14 points apiece to lead Alabama State to an easy 67-49 win over Texas Southern Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament.

The Hornets (20-9) will face the winner of Thursday's game between Jackson State and Southern in the semifinals on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

The Tigers (7-25) scored first less than a minute into the game on a 3-pointer by David Burrell and led twice in the first five minutes of the game. Then Alabama State took the lead on a Hayles 3-pointer and never let Texas Southern take the lead again.

Brandon Gordon added 11 points for Alabama State, and Rashad Provitt snagged 10 rebounds as the Hornets outrebounded the Tigers 57-42.

Alabama State led 36-24 going into the intermission and never let Texas Southern get closer than 10 points in the second half. The Hornets led by 25 with 3:05 left to play before the Tigers went on a 7-0 run to whittle the lead down to the final 18-point margin.
