KATY, Texas (AP) -Ryan Bright scored 17 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead Sam Houston State to a 64-62 overtime win over McNeese State in the first round of the Southland Conference tournament Thursday.

Trailing 64-61 in overtime after Jeremy Thomas hit two free throws for Sam Houston, McNeese State had a chance to tie the game when point guard John Ford was fouled with 0.5 seconds while attempting a long 3-pointer. Ford made the first free throw, but missed the second and third.

Sam Houston rallied in the final minutes to force overtime after trailing for most of the game.

McNeese had a 48-46 lead and the ball, but took three shots without hitting the rim, resulting in a shot-clock violation with 25.4 seconds left in the game.

On Sam Houston's final possession in regulation, Thomas was fouled going to the goal with six seconds left, setting up his two free throws that tied it at 50-50.

McNeese didn't get another shot off in regulation.

Sam Houston scored the first seven points in overtime before holding off the Cowboys the rest of the way.

John Gardiner scored 11 points and DeLuis Ramirez added 10 for Sam Houston (23-7).

Ford led McNeese (13-16) with 21 points, including a 4-of-7 performance from the 3-point line.

John Pichon added 13 and Jarvis Bradley scored 12 for the Cowboys, who finished the season with a three-game losing streak.

Sam Houston will play Texas-Arlington in the semifinals on Friday.
