RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -Reggie Holmes scored 18 points, including 10 of 12 free throws in the final 1:09, to lead Morgan State to 61-55 semifinal victory over Delaware State in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament on Friday.
Top-seeded Morgan State (22-9) will play seventh-seeded Coppin State, the winner of the other semifinal game, in the championship game Saturday.
Morgan State played in the MEAC tournament finals from 1974-78 but only won in 1977. Fourth-seeded Delaware State (14-16) was gunning for its fourth straight championship game and last won the title in 2005.
The Bears overcame a horrible first half where they trailed 19-14 and had more turnovers, 7, than field goals, 4 of 17. The Hornets weren't much better, shooting 7 of 20 from the floor and turning the ball over eight times in the half.
But in the second half, the Bears shot 61.9 percent from the field and took the lead for good at 29-28 with 9:53 left on two free throws by Jerrell Green.
Boubacar Coly added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Bears.
Roy Bright led Delaware State with 22 points. Marcus Neal and Kyle White had 10 apiece.
