CLEVELAND (AP) -Fausto Carmona of the Cleveland Indians left a game against the Texas Rangers in the third inning on Friday night with an injury to his left hip.
The right-hander was slow to cover first base on a ball hit by Texas' David Murphy, who beat the throw from first baseman Ryan Garko to Carmona at the bag.
Carmona threw one strike to Brandon Boggs with runners on first and third and none out, then backed off and summoned trainer Lonnie Soloff. Carmona flexed his left leg, threw one practice pitch, then walked to the dugout.
An Indians spokesman said Carmona's condition is considered day to day.
Jorge Julio replaced Carmona with the Rangers leading 4-3. The right-hander allowed two inherited runners to score and five others to make it 11-3.
