NEWS: The Washington Wizards said Monday they won't match the New York Knicks' offer sheet on forward Jared Jeffries. The Wizards had seven days to match the Knicks' five-year, $30 million deal. They spent the week signing DeShawn Stevenson -- who, like Jeffries, is known for his perimeter defense -- to a contract that will pay him the NBA minimum of $932,000 for the upcoming season.
NOTES: Jeffries was the Wizards' 2002 NBA draft lottery pick. He's averaged 6.1 points and 4.9 rebounds in four seasons.

NEWS: The offer sheet Jeffries signed with the New York Knicks last week was officially sent Monday to the Washington Wizards, who have a week to decide whether to match it. The Knicks signed the former Indiana star, a restricted free agent, last Friday night to an offer reportedly for about $30 million over five years.
NOTES: The 6-foot-11, 240-pound Jeffries, selected by Washington with the 11th overall pick in the 2002 draft, has averaged 6.1 points and 4.9 rebounds in four seasons with the Wizards. He averaged 6.4 points and 4.9 rebounds in 77 games last season.

NEWS: The New Knicks signed Washington forward Jared Jeffries to an offer sheet believed to be for about $30 million over five years, according to published reports Saturday. The Knicks gave Jeffries, a restricted free agent, the maximum midlevel salary-cap exception Friday night. The Wizards will have seven days to match the offer and keep the former Indiana star.
NOTES: Jeffries averaged 6.4 points and 4.9 rebounds in 77 games last season. Jeffries, selected by Washington with the 11th overall pick in the 2002 draft, has averaged 6.1 points and 4.9 rebounds in four seasons with the Wizards.

NEWS: Francis sat out the Knicks' 91-87 loss to Cleveland on Thursday night with lower back spasms. It was the ninth game he has missed this season because of various injuries. The point guard has averaged 11.2 points in 23 games since being traded from Orlando to New York on Feb. 22.
NOTES: Nate Robinson started in his place.
Jamal Crawford (Shooting Guard) 4/6/2006
NEWS: Crawford had a season-high 37 points to help the Knicks end the Cavaliers' nine-game winning streak with a 96-94 victory on Wednesday night. The shooting guard hit the go-ahead jumper with 6.4 seconds left and Knicks coach Larry Brown praised Crawford's effort after the game.
NOTES: Crawford is averaging 13.5 points on 41.7 percent shooting this season for the struggling Knicks.
Jalen Rose (Guard-Forward) 4/2/2006
NEWS: Rose is out with plantar fasciitis of the left foot and a sore right knee. He wasn't expected to travel with the team to Philadelphia and is scheduled to have an MRI exam Monday. The Knicks hope he will rejoin them in time for Tuesday's game against the Washington Wizards.
NOTES: Rose is averaging 12.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 45 games this season. He had eight points, five assists and four rebounds in Friday's 117-112 loss to the Sixers.
Stephon Marbury (Point Guard) 4/2/2006
NEWS: Marbury is doubtful for Sunday's game at Philadelphia. The Knicks listed their point guard as doubtful, but he said Saturday that he would not play because of his injured left knee. Marbury left in the first quarter of Friday's loss to the Sixers and an MRI exam Saturday revealed a strained left patella tendon.
NOTES: Marbury is averaging 16.3 points, 6.4 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 60 games this season.
Steve Francis (Point Guard) 4/2/2006
NEWS: Francis is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Philadelphia because of a sprained toe on his right foot. The Knicks' point guard missed Friday's loss to the Sixers due to the injury.
NOTES: Francis is averaging 11.5 points, 3.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 17 games since being traded from the Orlando Magic on Feb. 22.
Quentin Richardson (Guard-Forward) 4/2/2006
NEWS: Richardson has been sidelined eight of the last nine games with a sprained left thumb. The Knicks' swingman had started 20 straight games before getting injured. After missing four games, Richardson played on March 22, but was held scoreless and has been sidelined since.
NOTES: Richardson is averaging 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 54 games this season.

NEWS: Woods missed a second straight game Sunday. The flu sidelined him for the Knicks' 98-94 loss at Minnesota. He is day-to-day.

Channing Frye (Forward-Center) 3/25/2006
NEWS: Frye said he is confident he can play in the NBA's summer league this July for the Knicks. Frye will miss the rest of the regular season because of a sprained left knee ligament.
NOTES: Frye is third among first-year players with 12.3 points per game, and also ranks in the top five in field-goal percentage (47.7 percent) and rebounds (5.8).
Qyntel Woods (Guard-Forward) 3/25/2006
NEWS: Woods missed the Knicks' loss on Friday against the Grizzlies because he suffered from flu-like symptoms. Woods could return Sunday when the Knicks visit Minnesota.

Channing Frye (Forward-Center) 3/22/2006
NEWS: Frye will miss the rest of the season because of a sprained left knee ligament. An MRI exam in New York on Wednesday confirmed the injury to the New York Knicks' rookie forward. Frye will be on crutches for the next three weeks, but surgery will not be needed. The Knicks expect Frye to be able to return in time for summer league play in July. Frye was injured early in the fourth quarter of the Knicks' 114-109 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night.
NOTES: Frye has been one of the top rookies in the NBA this season. He is third among first-year players with 12.3 points per game, and also ranks in the top five in field goal percentage (47.7 percent) and rebounds (5.8).
Malik Rose (Forward) 3/20/2006
NEWS: Knicks forward Rose suffered a sprained ankle and left in the second quarter on Sunday. He's questionable for Tuesday's game against the Raptors.

NEWS: Richardson could return for the Knicks Tuesday against the Raptors after a three-game absence because of a sprained thumb. What first-year Knicks coach Larry Brown will do with the lineup with Richardson possibly in and Malik Rose possibly out is uncertain.
NOTES: Richarson has started in 43 of his 53 appearances this season.

NEWS: Tuesday is the earliest day Richardson will return from a sprained thumb. He missed Friday's win against Detroit.
NOTES: Richardson's absence allows Stephon Marbury and Steve Francis to start in the backcourt.

NEWS: With Quentin Richardson out because of a sprained thumb, Crawford might have bolstered his playing time by scoring 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting. He scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to help the Knicks overcome a 16-point deficit in Friday's win over Detroit.
NOTES: Crawford has averaged 13.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 61 games with the Knicks this season.
