Orlando Magic 2006 News & Notes
Bo Outlaw (Power Forward) 8/16/2006
NEWS: The Orlando Magic resigned Outlaw on Wednesday. The 13-year-veteran averaged 2.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 32 games last season. He averaged 11.1 minutes per game.
NOTES:
Keith Bogans (Guard-Forward) 7/13/2006
NEWS: Bogans signed with the Orlando Magic on Thursday. Bogans spent his rookie year with the Magic three seasons ago after Orlando acquired him in a draft night deal from Milwaukee. He appeared in 73 games as a rookie, averaging 6.8 points and 4.3 rebounds. Bogans most recently played for the Houston Rockets, who acquired him in a trade with Charlotte. Bogans averaged 8.5 points with Houston last season.
NOTES: In his three seasons, Bogans has averaged 8.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 219 games.
J.J. Redick (Guard) 7/8/2006
NEWS: Redick signed his rookie contract with the Magic on Friday. The 11th overall pick from Duke, Redick was the NCAA's all-time 3-point leader and was named to the U.S. basketball team, one of 23 players chosen. He has a herniated disk in his back that forced him to miss several pre-draft workouts, but said he hopes to play with the U.S. team later this month in Las Vegas.
NOTES:
Grant Hill (Small Forward) 5/18/2006
NEWS: Hill reportedly began workouts with abdominal specialist Alex McKechnie in Vancouver, BC. The Orlando Magic forward has battled lower abdomen sports hernia-related injuries that caused him to miss 21 games last season. Hill averaged 15.1 points and 3.8 rebounds last season.
NOTES: "Grant probably will be with Alex about a week or so in Vancouver," Orlando general manager Otis Smith said. "It will be a few months before he'll be able to do anything on the court."
Hedo Turkoglu (Guard-Forward) 4/18/2006
NEWS: Turkoglu had 32 points and nine rebounds in the Magic's 116-112 overtime loss to the Bulls on Monday night.
NOTES: Turkoglu is averaging 14.9 points on 45.4-percent shooting in 78 games this season, but is averaging 27.5 points on 14-of-25 shooting (56.0 percent) in his last two games.
Grant Hill (Small Forward) 3/20/2006
NEWS: Hill is traveling with the Magic, but he isn't practicing. He could have played his last NBA game. He has been recovering from a sports hernia.
NOTES: Hill has averaged 15.1 points in 21 appearances with the Magic this season. Hill has played in 135 games, 67 of which were last season, since coming to the Magic before the 2000-01 season.
Grant Hill (Small Forward) 3/14/2006
NEWS: Magic general manager Otis Smith told the Orlando Sentinel any decision to have Hill sit out the remainder of the season will be Hill's. The veteran forward visited a specialist on Monday in Philadelphia and is expected to rest for the next week.
NOTES: Hill has averaged 15.1 points in 21 appearances with the Magic this season. He has played in 135 games, 67 of which were last season, since coming to the Magic before the 2000-01 season.
Grant Hill (Small Forward) 3/13/2006
NEWS: Hill, who missed Saturday's home game against Golden State, will not accompany the Magic on their upcoming road trip. The small forward is meeting with a specialist in Philadelphia to treat his sports hernia.
NOTES: Hill has averaged 15.1 points in 21 appearances with the Magic this season. He has played in 135 games, 67 of which were last season, since coming to the Magic before the 2000-01 season. The former Duke star might have played his last game with the Magic, and possibly the last of his career.
Keyon Dooling (Point Guard) 3/5/2006
NEWS: Dooling missed the Magic's 110-94 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Saturday due to flu-like symptoms.
NOTES: Dooling is averaging career highs with 9.5 points, 2.4 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 27 games for the Magic this season. The team's next game is on Monday against the Utah Jazz.
Anfernee Hardaway (Guard-Forward) 2/24/2006
NEWS: Hardaway was waived by the Orlando Magic on Friday, two days after being acquired in a trade from the New York Knicks. The Magic acquired him along with Trevor Ariza for Steve Francis on Wednesday.
NOTES: Hardaway has averaged 15.4 points on 45.8-percent shooting with 5.1 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 688 games during his 13-year career. He has scored 2.5 points with 2.0 assists in four games this season for the Knicks.
Darko Milicic (Forward-Center) 2/22/2006
NEWS: Milicic scored two points in four minutes of action in his Orlando debut Tuesday night. The Magic took a chance on the big man, trading for him after the Pistons gave up on the No. 2 overall pick in the 2003 draft. Milicic made the only shot he took.
NOTES: Orlando coach Brian Hill said Milicic will be given every opportunity to play, but the third-year center has to learn the team's system first.
Anfernee Hardaway (Guard-Forward) 2/22/2006
NEWS: Hardaway, along with Trevor Ariza, was dealt to Orlando on Wednesday in exchange for Steve Francis, returning the guard to the place where he began his career. Hardaway has suffered multiple knee injuries and has played in only four games with the Knicks this season, instead choosing to rehab on his own in Houston.
NOTES: This is mostly a salary dump for Orlando, as Hardaway's contract comes off the books in the offseason. Always a threat to get hurt, Hardaway could see a minor boost in his stats with the return to a familiar place.
Trevor Ariza (Small Forward) 2/22/2006
NEWS: Ariza was traded to Orlando on Wednesday along with Anfernee Hardaway in exchange for Steve Francis. A second round pick in 2004, the small forward from UCLA clashed with Knicks coach Larry Brown and had inconsistent playing time. He averaged 4.6 points in 36 games.
NOTES:
Darko Milicic (Forward-Center) 2/16/2006
NEWS: The Pistons finally gave up on Milicic Wednesday, trading the big man to Orlando along with Carlos Arroyo in exchange for Kelvin Cato and a first-round pick. The No. 2 pick in the 2003 draft, Milicic has struggled to get playing time and has underachieved in his three seasons with the Pistons, averaging 1.6 points, 1.2 rebounds and 5.8 minutes.
NOTES: The 20-year-old remains talented and the trade will give him an opportunity to showcase the skills that made him so highly regarded three years ago. With consistent playing time with the Magic, expect Milicic to make an impact in the second half of the season.
Carlos Arroyo (Point Guard) 2/16/2006
NEWS: Arroyo was traded with Darko Milicic to Orlando on Wednesday in exchange for Kelvin Cato and a first-round pick. The point guard was averaging 3.2 points and 3.1 assists, but his playing time was about to decrease with the return of Lindsey Hunter to the Detroit lineup. The Pistons acquired Arroyo 13 months ago from the Jazz.
NOTES: Arroyo may see more playing time with the Magic, but don't expect his numbers to jump dramatically, given that Jameer Nelson has entrenched himself as the starter at point guard.
Keith Bogans (Guard-Forward) 2/9/2006
NEWS: The Houston Rockets acquired Bogans from the Charlotte Bobcats Thursday in exchange for Lonny Baxter. The 25-year-old Bogans averaged 8.7 points in 39 games (nine starts) for the Bobcats this season. He has scored 10 or more points 17 times.
NOTES: Bogans has missed nine games since suffering a right knee sprain Jan. 21 at Milwaukee. In his three seasons, Bogans has averaged 8.3 points and 3.5 rebounds in 186 games.
Jameer Nelson (Point Guard) 1/30/2006
NEWS: Nelson missed his fifth consecutive game on Sunday, an 89-81 loss to the 76ers, with a sprained foot. However, the Magic point guard is expected to be back in the lineup on Wednesday against the Clippers.
NOTES: In 37 games this season, Nelson is averaging 13.8 points, 4.4 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 28.2 minutes.
Pat Garrity (Forward) 1/27/2006
NEWS: Garrity opened overtime with consecutive 3-pointers and scored a season-high 24 points in a season-high 30 minutes in the Magic's 119-115 overtime win over the 76ers on Thursday.
NOTES: Garrity is averaging 5.1 points and 15 minutes this season, while shooting 44.6 percent from the field.
Keith Bogans (Guard-Forward) 1/23/2006
NEWS: The Charlotte Bobcats took another hit on Saturday, as Bogans suffered a Grade 1 sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. The swingman will be re-evaluated over the next couple of days, but at this point, the team does not have an exact timetable for his return. In the Bobcats' previous game, leading scorer Gerald Wallace suffered a bone bruise in his leg and is expected to be out 4-6 weeks.
NOTES: For now, consider Bogans as day-to-day. In 39 games this season, he is averaging 8.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steals in 21.7 minutes per contest.
Jameer Nelson (Point Guard) 1/22/2006
NEWS: Nelson missed Orlando's game against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday with a sprained right foot. The second-year point guard has been hot of late, leading the team in scoring in three of his last five games. For the season, Nelson is averaging 13.8 points, 4.4 assists and 3.0 rebounds.
