Paul Pierce (Guard-Forward) 8/16/2006
NEWS: The Boston Celtics are reporting that surgery on Paul Pierce's elbow went well and he should be fully healthy by camp. "I just talked to Paul yesterday, and Paul said he's feeling fine," Executive Director of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge said on the team's website. "We'll see how long it's going to take to get him back playing but I expect Paul to be playing basketball again in early September."
NOTES:
Paul Pierce (Guard-Forward) 8/9/2006
NEWS: Pierce underwent minor arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow on Wednesday, but is expected to return by the start of camp.
NOTES: Pierce averaged 26.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 79 games last season.
Al Jefferson (Power Forward) 8/3/2006
NEWS: Jefferson underwent successful minor arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle on Thursday. The power forward missed the final 14 games of the season for the Celtics due to the injured ankle.
NOTES: Jefferson averaged 7.9 points with 5.1 rebounds for the Celtics during the 2005-06 season.
Leon Powe (Forward) 7/19/2006
NEWS: Powe signed with the Boston Celtics on Tuesday. The Celtics acquired Powe's rights from the Denver Nuggets, who drafted him 49th overall out of California after only two years of college basketball. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The 6-foot-8 forward led the Pacific-10 in scoring last season with 20.5 points per game and in rebounding with 10.1 per game.
NOTES:
Paul Pierce (Guard-Forward) 7/17/2006
NEWS: Pierce signed a three-year, $59 million contract extension on Monday that would keep the Celtics captain in Boston through the 2010-11 season. The five-time All-Star is scheduled to make $31.5 million over the next two years, including a player option for 2007-08. Pierce has played his entire, eight-year career with Boston and took over as co-captain in 2000.
NOTES: Pierce averaged a career-high 26.8 points with 6.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists last season, equaling Larry Bird with his fourth straight 2,000-point season. Pierce is the eighth-leading scorer in Celtics history. Last season, he led the team in scoring 63 times, in rebounds 26 times and in assists 31 times.
Paul Pierce (Guard-Forward) 7/13/2006
NEWS: Pierce and the Boston Celtics have agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension worth almost $60 million. The NBA office must approve the deal before it can become official. Also Thursday, the Celtics said Pierce is scheduled to have minor surgery on his left elbow in August. He should be ready for the start of training camp.
NOTES: In his eight seasons, Pierce has averaged 23.5 points and 6.6 rebounds in 605 games. He averaged a career-high 26.8 points last season.
Rajon Rondo (Guard) 7/4/2006
NEWS: Boston signed Rondo, its first round pick, on Tuesday. The point guard averaged 11 points, six rebounds and five assists per game for Kentucky last season, but chose to enter the draft after his sophomore season. He was originally selected by Phoenix, but was traded to the Celtics on draft night. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
NOTES:
Theo Ratliff (Forward-Center) 6/29/2006
NEWS: Ratliff was traded to Boston from Portland on Wednesday along with Sebastien Telfair in exchange for the No. 7 pick in the NBA draft, Raef LaFrentz and Dan Dickau. Ratliff battled through injuries last season, averaging 4.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocked shots in 55 games for the Trail Blazers.
NOTES: Ratliff will be playing for the fifth different team in his career during which he's averaged 8.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots.
Sebastian Telfair (Point Guard) 6/28/2006
NEWS: Telfair was traded from Portland to Boston on Wednesday in exchange for the No. 7 pick in the NBA Draft as well as one or two other players to be named later. The 21-year-old point guard, who was drafted out of high school by the Trail Blazers two years ago, averaged 8.1 points and 3.5 assists for Portland in two seasons.
NOTES: Boston desperately needed point guard help and felt Telfair was better than any player available at the seventh spot. Telfair was hurt for part of last season, but showed improvement from his first year in the NBA. He averaged 9.5 points and 3.6 assists and shot 39.4 percent in 68 games.
Paul Pierce (Guard-Forward) 6/16/2006
NEWS: Pierce will undergo an MRI and further x-rays on his injured left elbow to determine if the Boston Celtic swingman should undergo surgery, according to the Boston Globe.
NOTES: Pierce struggled with his elbow problems in the final weeks of the season. He sat out the final three games of the season and was scheduled to have surgery but backed out. "I'm scared. I've never had surgery [on a basketball-related injury] before. I need to get it X-rayed more, get an MRI, then I'll decide. It was puffy during the season, but then, we kept poking it and kept draining it. So, hopefully, now we can see what's in there making it do that [swell up]."
Wally Szczerbiak (Guard-Forward) 6/2/2006
NEWS: The Boston Globe is reporting that Szczerbiak is ready to start a full-court work. The Celtic forward underwent knee surgery on April 11 after being bothered by the knee since joining the team in January. He did not play in the final seven games of the season after averaging 19 points this year.
NOTES:
Kendrick Perkins (Forward-Center) 5/30/2006
NEWS: Perkins had arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder Tuesday and is expected to be ready for the start of the season. The Boston Celtics center was injured last week while working out at the team's practice facility, dislocating the same shoulder he injured during a Feb. 8 game against the Denver Nuggets that caused him to miss 13 games.
NOTES: Perkins averaged 5.2 points and 5.9 rebounds last season. "We fully expect him back for the start of the season," Celtics vice president Jeff Twiss said. "The surgery is more just to tighten the capsule around the (shoulder) joint."
Tony Allen (Guard) 4/18/2006
NEWS: Allen scored a career-high 23 points in Boston's 93-88 loss to Cleveland on Monday. The 24-year-old guard went just 3-for-11 from the free-throw line.
NOTES: Allen is averaging just 7.0 points on the season, but has totaled 44 points in his last three games.
Paul Pierce (Guard-Forward) 4/17/2006
NEWS: Pierce missed the Celtics' game against the New Jersey Nets on Sunday because of bursitis in his left elbow. The Boston swingman, sixth in the NBA with a 26.8 scoring average, had 22 points in a 79-74 loss to the Nets on Friday.
NOTES: Pierce likely is out for the final two games this season, according to the Boston Herald, and will get offseason surgery on his ailing elbow. He had arguably his best campaign in 2006, scoring 30 or more points 28 times. The Celtics, however, went just 15-13 in those games.
Wally Szczerbiak (Guard-Forward) 4/11/2006
NEWS: Szczerbiak underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Monday and hopes to be ready to play in summer camp in July. The knee had been bothering the Boston swingman since he was traded from Minnesota to the Celtics on Jan. 26. He averaged 17.5 points in 32 games with Boston after averaging 20.1 in 40 games with the Timberwolves.
NOTES:
Theo Ratliff (Forward-Center) 3/24/2006
NEWS: Ratliff did not travel with the Trail Blazers to Phoenix on Thursday.
NOTES: Ratliff has been out since Feb. 12 due to a severe left ankle sprain. He has averaged 4.6 points and 5.4 rebounds in 42 games with Portland this season.
Paul Pierce (Guard-Forward) 3/23/2006
NEWS: Pierce continued his streak of playing in every game this season by scoring 32 points for the Celtics against Toronto Wednesday. He played despite suffering a mild ankle sprain against the Lakers on Monday.
NOTES: Pierce is averaging a career-high 27.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 69 games this season.
Brian Grant (Forward-Center) 3/20/2006
NEWS: Grant will be in a Suns uniform on Tuesday.
NOTES: Grant underwent surgery in December for a right knee injury that bothered him over the previous two seasons. Grant averaged more than 16 minutes in 69 games for the Lakers last season.
Paul Pierce (Guard-Forward) 3/18/2006
NEWS: Pierce will play through a swollen left elbow and bruised left knee.
NOTES: After Friday, the Celtics trailed Philadelphia by 4 1/2 games for the Eastern Conference's eighth seed.
Wally Szczerbiak (Guard-Forward) 3/18/2006
NEWS: Szczerbiak told The Boston Globe his sore left knee started hurting during the fourth quarter of Saturday's game against the Magic. Szczerbiak said playing on consecutive nights aggravates his injury.
