DeShawn Stevenson (Shooting Guard) 8/5/2006
NEWS: Stevenson signed with the Washington Wizards on Saturday, giving the team insurance in case it decides not to match an offer sheet to forward Jared Jeffries. The free agent guard signed a two-year contract that will pay the league minimum $932,000 the first year with a player option the second.
NOTES: Stevenson started all 82 games for the Orlando Magic last season, averaging 11.0 points and 2.9 rebounds. He opted out of the final year of his contract, giving up more than $3 million in salary in hopes of earning more on the market. Stevenson was picked 23rd in the first round of the 2000 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz where he played for almost four seasons before being traded to Orlando.
Darius Songaila (Power Forward) 7/20/2006
NEWS: The Washington Wizards signed Songaila on Wednesday, less than a year after he signed with the Bulls as a free agent.
NOTES: Songaila, 28, averaged 9.2 points and 4.0 rebounds in 62 games last season with Chicago. Selected by the Boston Celtics in the second round of the 2002 draft, Songaila was traded to Sacramento in June 2003 and played with the Kings for his first two NBA seasons. He's averaging 7.0 points and 3.8 rebounds in 216 career games.
Gilbert Arenas (Point Guard) 6/27/2006
NEWS: Arenas missed a court hearing Tuesday on a charge of resisting an officer without violence, and a warrant was briefly issued before the arraignment was rescheduled. Neither Arenas nor his attorney showed up for the arraignment. Circuit Judge Samuel Slom issued a bench warrant for the player's arrest and set a $2,000 bond, both of which were lifted when the Wizards contacted the judge and told him the player didn't receive a written notice regarding the court date.
NOTES: This is good news for Arenas, who led the Wizards to the Eastern Conference playoffs this past season. The 24-year-old guard was named to the All-NBA third team and averaged 29.3 points, fourth in the league.
Gilbert Arenas (Point Guard) 5/4/2006
NEWS: Arenas scored a playoff career-high 44 points and was 6-for-9 from 3-point range in Washington's 121-120 Game 5 loss to Cleveland on Wednesday. Arenas had a chance to win the game at the end of overtime, but his desperation 3 at the buzzer was way off.
NOTES: Arenas entered Wednesday's game averaging 14.8 points in the fourth quarter in the series, but scored just two points in the fourth period of Game 5. He is averaging 33.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists in the playoff series.
Etan Thomas (Forward-Center) 4/9/2006
NEWS: Thomas missed Washington's game with Miami on Saturday night and might be out another week with lower back pain, according to Wizards coach Eddie Jordan. The center originally suffered the injury against Atlanta on Friday night and had to leave the game.
NOTES: Thomas, averaging 4.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 69 games, was replaced by Brendan Haywood in the starting lineup. Thomas had claimed Haywood's starting job last month
Caron Butler (Small Forward) 4/8/2006
NEWS: Butler was placed on the inactive list with a right thumb sprain before the Wizards' game with the Atlanta Hawks on Friday and also missed the matchup with the Miami Heat on Saturday. The 26-year-old Butler is averaging 17.3 points and 6.1 rebounds this season. Forward Awvee Storey was activated to take Butler's place.

NEWS: Arenas sat out Washington's 97-84 win over Sacramento on Tuesday night with an apparent case of the flu. It's only the second game the point guard has missed this season. Arenas is fourth in the NBA in scoring at 29.1 points per game.

Gilbert Arenas (Point Guard) 3/28/2006
NEWS: Arenas scored 40 points in Monday's 116-98 victory over the Warriors, his former team. The Wizards' point guard hit seven 3-pointers and had 10 assists in his ninth 40-point game of the season. Arenas spent his first two seasons with the Warriors before he signed a $65 million free-agent deal with Washington in the summer of 2003.
NOTES: Arenas is averaging 29.1 points, 5.9 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 68 games this season.
Antawn Jamison (Forward) 3/26/2006
NEWS: Jamison scored 31 points on 13-for-26 shooting on Saturday in the Wizards' loss to the Clippers.
NOTES: The 31-point total was Jamison's highest since scoring 35 in a March 14 win over Charlotte.
Darius Songaila (Power Forward) 3/11/2006
NEWS: Songaila has a fractured right foot and will reportedly be sidelined for up to eight weeks. The Chicago Bulls' forward scored 10 points in Chicago's 107-96 loss Friday to the Los Angeles Clippers.
NOTES: Songaila appeared in each of the Bulls' first 62 games this season, averaging 9.2 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. He signed with the Bulls as a free agent last September after spending his first two NBA seasons with the Sacramento Kings.
Jarvis Hayes (Small Forward) 2/14/2006
NEWS: Hayes had surgery on his fractured right kneecap on Tuesday and the Washington small forward may be out for the rest of the season. Hayes, a first-round pick in 2003, hasn't played since Dec. 16 and there is no timetable for his return. He will be re-evaluated in 6-8 weeks.
NOTES: Hayes started 13 of the Wizards' first 21 games and is averaging 9.3 points and 7.6 rebounds this season.
Gilbert Arenas (Point Guard) 2/13/2006
NEWS: Arenas scored 43 points and added five assists in Washington's 97-96 loss to the New Orleans Hornets on Monday. The all-star point guard is averaging 36.8 points in the last four games, which include two 40-point performances.
NOTES: Arenas is fourth in the NBA with 28.6 points per game and leads the Wizards with 6.0 assists in 49 games this season.

NEWS: NBA commissioner David Stern announced Friday that Arenas will replace injured Indiana forward Jermaine O'Neal on the Eastern Conference roster for the All-Star Game. O'Neal, who was voted an All-Star starter by the fans, will have to sit out the game with a left groin tear.
NOTES: Arenas, making his second consecutive All-Star appearance, ranks fourth in the NBA with a 28.2 scoring average. The 6-foot-4 Washington point guard has been hot of late, averaging 31.3 points in four games this month.
Caron Butler (Small Forward) 2/9/2006
NEWS: Butler had a season-high 34 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three steals Wednesday in the Wizards' 129-124 victory over the Golden State Warriors. The Washington forward made 12-of-24 from the floor and 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.
NOTES: Butler averages 16.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in 45 games this season.

NEWS: Arenas made 23 of 25 shots from the free-throw line to finish with 45 points in Washington's 129-124 win over Golden State Wednesday. It was the sixth time this season the Wizards' point guard scored 40-plus points. He had a season-high 47 points on Dec. 30.
NOTES: Arenas leads Washington with 28.2 points in 47 games this season.

NEWS: Arenas scored 34 points in the Wizards' 107-97 win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Saturday. He made eight of his first 12 shots and had 22 points in the first half.
NOTES: Arenas has played well since scoring a season-low nine points in a 103-72 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Jan. 11. In nine games since, the 24-year-old Washington point guard has averaged 27.3 points and 5.7 assists. For the season, he is averaging 28.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game.
Brendan Haywood (Center) 1/25/2006
NEWS: Haywood was reportedly unable to practice Tuesday, Jan. 24 due to a mildly sprained left foot. He's been hobbled by th injury for several weeks but is listed as probable for a Wednesday, Jan. 25 road game against the Boston Celtics.
NOTES: The Washington Wizards' center is averaging 8.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks this season.
Antawn Jamison (Forward) 1/23/2006
NEWS: Jamison has shown more consistent production since being temporarily pulled from the Wizards' starting lineup earlier this month. In Sunday's loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, the forward notched 25 points, 10 rebounds and two assists in 44 minutes of action. With the performance, Jamison now has scored 20 or more points and grabbed 10 or more boards in each of his last four games.
NOTES: Don't expect Jamison to lose his starting gig again any time soon. In 39 games overall this season, he is averaging 18.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals.
Etan Thomas (Forward-Center) 1/23/2006
NEWS: According to Wizards head coach Eddie Jordan, Thomas will rejoin the team in time for Wednesday's meeting with the Boston Celtics. The reserve forward/center has missed three consecutive games following the death of his grandmother.
NOTES: Thomas is averaging 4.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 15.3 minutes in 35 games this season. Expect him to reclaim his spot in the rotation later this week.

NEWS: Thomas missed the Wizards' 110-99 win over the Hornets because of his grandmother's death. It was Thomas' second consecutive missed game while away with his family. Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said the reserve center might not be back for Sunday's game against Memphis.
NOTES: Thomas is averaging 4.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 15.3 minutes in 35 games this season.
