DENTON, Texas (AP) -Zac Champion threw for a career-high 306 yards and four touchdowns to lead Louisiana Tech past North Texas 34-31 on Saturday night.

Danny Horwedel's second field goal of the game, a 24-yarder with 9:32 to play, was the game-winner. Shalamar Walker intercepted Daniel Meager's pass at the Bulldogs' 40 with 59 seconds left to end North Texas' final threat.

Champion's previous best was 231 yards in the season-opening 49-10 loss to Nebraska. Eric Newman caught six passes for 98 yards and a touchdown for Tech (3-6).

Meager threw for 155 yards and a touchdown for North Texas (2-7). Johnny Quinn caught five passes for 100 yards, surpassing Troy Redwine to set a new North Texas school record for career yards receiving, ending the game with 2,609.

The game featured several momentum swings.

Tech survived a furious comeback from the Mean Green, who came back from a 21-0 first-quarter deficit to score 31 straight points.
