AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) -Led by Dan LeFevour's three touchdown passes, Central Michigan scored early and often to defeat Buffalo 55-28 Friday.

LeFevour completed 14 of 16 attempts for 294 yards in just one half of work before giving way to backup Brian Brunner.

Central Michigan (8-4) crushed Buffalo's (2-10) hopes of ending its first season under head coach Turner Gill on a high note. The Chippewas opened up a 41-point lead at halftime and tallied 393 yards of total offense.

Tim Brazzel took the opening kickoff for a 79-yard touchdown, then blocked Ben Woods' punt to set up a 23-yard scoring drive.

Buffalo answered with a 10-play, 75-yard drive culminating in Stephen King's 1-yard plunge. But the Chippewas again responded quickly as LeFevour found Justin Gardner, who outran the Bulls' coverage for a 66-yard score.

Buffalo's starting QB Tony Paoli completed 6 of 13 for 64 yards before leaving in the second quarter with an injury.

Paoli was replaced by Stewart Sampsel, who completed 15 of 28 for a career-high 161 yards, one interception and a pair of touchdowns. The Bulls had 349 yards of total offense.
