JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) -Corey Leonard ran for three touchdowns and passed for two more to lead Arkansas State to a 45-28 victory Saturday night over Southern Methodist.

Leonard threw for a career-high 226 yards to lead the Indians (1-1) to a victory in their delayed home opener. ASU was scheduled to play Memphis in its opener last week but the game was postponed until Sept. 27 after a three-hour delay for lightning and rain.

Leonard scored on runs of 6, 9 and 3 yards and threw touchdown passes of 6 yards to Chris Miller and 12 yards to David Johnson.

For the night, he completed 22 of 34 passes, with one interception. He also ran for 52 yards on 20 carries.

After leading 21-14 at halftime, Leonard hit Miller for a score on the Indians' first drive of the second half.

The Mustangs (1-2) narrowed the margin to a touchdown again at 28-21 on a 10-yard pass from Justin Willis to Emmanuel Sanders, who caught 8 passes for 110 yards.

Josh Arauco's 19-yard field goal with 10:10 left in the game put the Indians up 31-21 and they added a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to put the game away.

Leonard's 3-yard score came with 6:55 left and he hit Johnson for the final TD with 5:32 left.

Devin Lowery caught a 25-yard scoring pass from Willis with 3:33 left to end the Mustangs' scoring.

Willis ran for 88 yards and completed 21 of 40 passes for 251 yards and four touchdowns, but he also threw two interceptions.

ASU's Reggie Arnold rushed for 156 yard on 19 carries and Levi Dejohnette had six catches for 77 yards. The Indians finished with 516 yards offense - 250 rushing - to SMU's 347 yards, only 96 on the ground.
