FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -TCU scored on a blocked punt and an interception return, then held on through a scoreless second half to beat SMU 21-7 on Saturday night.

The victory avenged TCU's only loss of the 2005 season in the first meeting of the crosstown rivals since then.

Both teams squandered multiple scoring opportunities. TCU lost two fumbles inside the SMU 20-yard line, and the Mustangs (1-3) were 0-for-3 on fourth down inside the TCU 25.

The Horned Frogs (2-2) had as many touchdowns and first downs - two - in the first 20 minutes of the game. They led 14-7 thanks to touchdowns off a blocked punt and an interception.

Colin Jones blocked Thomas Morstead's punt, and Bart Johnson picked it up and took it 17 yards into end zone for a 7-7 tie with 4:14 left in the first quarter. Robert Henson scored on a 43-yard interception return with 11:47 remaining in the first half.

Backup quarterback Marcus Jackson replaced starter Andy Dalton for a series in the first half and led TCU on a 16-play, 78-yard drive that ended with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Derek Moore.

Jackson and Dalton spent the rest of the game rotating at quarterback, with Jackson completing six of 12 passes for 68 yards and Dalton five of 14 attempts for 40 yards.

SMU quarterback Justin Willis was 19-of-31 for 203 yards, and the Mustangs held a 12-minute advantage in time of possession.

TCU, which was ranked as high as No. 19, snapped a two-game losing streak. SMU lost its 16th consecutive nonconference road game.

DeMyron Martin scored on a 15-yard run for SMU in the first quarter. he finished with 100 yards on 19 carries.
