LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) -Chase Holbrook threw for 246 yards and Paul Young kicked a 37-yard field goal with one second remaining to give New Mexico State a 20-17 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday night.
The Aggies (3-2) put together their game-winning drive after safety Derrick Richardson intercepted a tipped pass in the end zone with 2:53 to play.
Young's kick capped an 11-play drive and the field goal accounted for New Mexico State's only points of the second half.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-4, 1-2 SWAC) was paced by Martell Mallett, who had 87 yards on 18 carries including a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Despite taking a 10-0 lead early in the first quarter, the Aggies struggled in the second half. They were stymied by penalties - eight for 79 yards - and an injury to Holbrook that sidelined him for five minutes late in the fourth quarter.
Holbrook returned with about one minute to play and guided New Mexico State on its final scoring drive.
Young also kicked a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter for the Aggies, who wore pink socks and ribbons on their helmets to support breast cancer research.
