BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) -Troy jumped out to a 14-0 lead with a first-quarter defensive touchdown and held on to beat Western Kentucky 21-17 on Saturday.

Troy (7-3), the leader of the Sun Belt Conference, never trailed in defeating the Hilltoppers (6-4).

The Trojans scored twice in the first quarter, taking a 7-0 lead on Omar Haughabook's 5-yard pass to Gary Banks with 9:25 remaining. On the next possession, Troy's Chris Bradwell picked up a David Wolke fumble and returned it 16 yards for a 14-0 lead.

Western Kentucky pulled to 21-14 with a 65-yard scoring drive in the third quarter, as Stephen Willis scored from a yard out at the 7:30 mark.

Western Kentucky's final possession began from its own 1, highlighted by K.J. Black's 48-yard pass to Curtis Hamilton. The Hilltoppers drove as far as the Trojans 32-yard line, but a holding penalty and a fourth-down sack of Black ended the Hilltoppers' hopes.
