KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) -Tim Hiller threw for 276 yards and one touchdown, becoming the first sophomore in Western Michigan history to surpass 3,000 passing yards in one season and leading the Broncos to a season-ending 16-3 victory over Temple on Saturday.

Hiller finished the season with 3,021 passing yards, No. 3 in school history behind Tim Lester, who had 3,639 yards in 1999 and 3,311 in '98. Hiller completed 24-of-39 passes, including a 40-yard completion to Branden Ledbetter.

Mark Bonds ran for 105 yards and a touchdown, helping Western (5-7, 3-4 Mid-American) defeat Temple (4-8, 4-4) for the sixth consecutive time.

Jake Brownell kicked a 24-yard field goal for Temple, but that was the lone offensive highlight for the Owls. Quarterback Vaughn Charlton completed just 6-of-25 passes for 92 yards, and was sacked six times - not including two other sacks that were negated by penalties. He did have a career-long 25-yard run and a punt on third down that covered 58 yards.

WMU's 438 yards of total offense tripled Temple's 146. The Owls did not get a first down for the first 20 minutes of the game.

With a 5-yard touchdown pass from Hiller to give WMU a 7-3 lead in the second quarter, tight end Branden Ledbetter broke a school record for career scoring passes caught by a tight end (14). Jake Moreland and Tony Scheffler, who both played in the NFL, held the old record of 13.

WMU senior receiver Herb Martin caught a game-high seven passes for 100 yards in his last college game, tying a career high. Jordan White caught a career-high six passes for 53 yards.

Temple's Terrance Knighton blocked two kicks on an attempted 32-yard field by Mike Jones on the last play of the first half and a point-after try by Jones.
