Seattle Seahawks 2006 News & Notes
Jerramy Stevens (TE) 8/17/2006
NEWS: Stevens injured his left knee Thursday during practice.¶ Coach Mike Holmgren said Stevens fell on the knee during a team drill. Stevens walked off the field, was examined by trainers and was taken to the locker room in on a cart. He was expected to have an MRI later Thursday.
NOTES: Stevens emerged last season as a favorite target of quarterback Matt Hasselbeck on third downs and near the goal line. He had career highs of 45 receptions and five touchdowns.
Darrell Jackson (WR) 8/4/2006
NEWS: Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said wide receiver Darrell Jackson likely will not play until the team's Aug. 26 exhibition game at San Diego. Jackson, who had a career-high 87 receptions in 2004, had surgery on his right knee Oct. 12 to repair torn cartilage. He missed 10 games but returned to catch 20 passes in three playoff games, including five for 50 yards in Seattle's Super Bowl loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
NOTES: Jackson had a second knee surgery weeks after that Super Bowl loss to Pittsburgh. He's watching Seahawks training camp practices from the sidelines
Ken Hamlin (S) 7/30/2006
NEWS: Hamlin, sidelined since sustaining a fractured skull and blood clot near his brain in an altercation outside a Seattle nightclub last October, is set to participate in contact drills Sunday. Hamlin was beaten by two men in a fight that police say began at a bar and then continued outside. Hamlin spent six days in Seattle's Harborview Medical Center after the assault. No arrests have been made.
NOTES: The 25-year-old free safety started six games last season before being placed on injured reserve after the attack.
Sean Locklear (G) 7/19/2006
NEWS: Locklear has reached an agreement with prosecutors on a charge of assaulting his girlfriend last January and will perform community service for the next two years. Locklear was facing a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $5,000 fine for the gross misdemeanor.
NOTES: Locklear was arrested on Jan. 15, hours after the Seahawks' 20-10 playoff win over Washington. Seattle police said three witnesses told officers Locklear grabbed his girlfriend on the sidewalk as they argued after he reportedly got upset with her for dancing with another man at a nearby nightspot. Locklear made a public apology and started later that week against Carolina in the NFC title game, and in the Super Bowl versus Pittsburgh.
Mike Green (S) 4/25/2006
NEWS: The Chicago Bears traded Green to the Seattle Seahawks Tuesday for a sixth-round draft pick.
NOTES: Green, selected with the final pick in the 2000 draft from Northwestern State, had 437 total tackles (282 solo), six sacks, four interceptions and 27 pass breakups in six seasons with Chicago.
Kemp Rasmussen (DE) 4/14/2006
NEWS: Rasmussen signed with the Seahawks on Thursday. The defensive end spent the last four seasons with Carolina and will likely serve as a backup with Seattle. He played in 15 games last season, mostly on special teams.
NOTES:
Oliver Celestin (S) 4/12/2006
NEWS: Celestin signed a one-year, $425,000 contract with the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday. The former New York Jets safety was waived by the Jets on Feb. 27. He played 20 games over the past two seasons, registering 23 tackles and one fumble recovery.
NOTES:
Josh Brown (K) 4/10/2006
NEWS: Brown, a restricted free agent, signed a one-year deal Monday to remain with the Seahawks. Terms weren't immediately available, but the team had tendered the 26-year-old kicker a one-year offer for approximately $720,000 last month.
NOTES: Brown is 63-for-80 in field-goal attempts in his three-year career and has scored at least 109 points in each season.
Nate Burleson (WR) 4/1/2006
NEWS: The Seahawks will acquire wide receiver Burleson after the Vikings failed to match the seven-year offer sheet worth $49 million. The deal amounts to a four-year contract worth $14 million for Burleson, who will compete with Bobby Engram for the second wide receiver position. Minnesota will receive a third-round pick as compensation.
NOTES: Burleson caught 30 passes for 328 yards and one touchdown in 12 games for Minnesota last season, missing time because of hip, knee and shoulder ailments.
Darrell Jackson (WR) 3/25/2006
NEWS: Seahawks receiver Jackson underwent knee surgery this week. The procedure is said to be less serious than the one that caused him to miss a total of 10 games last season.
NOTES:
Nate Burleson (WR) 3/24/2006
NEWS: The Seahawks have signed wide receiver Burleson, who played with the Vikings last season, to a seven-year offer sheet worth $49 million with $5.25 million guaranteed. It's an offer similar to what the Vikings gave to offensive lineman Steve Hutchinson, who played for the Seahawks last season.
NOTES: Burleson caught 30 passes for 328 yards and one touchdown in 12 games for Minnesota last season, missing time because of hip, knee and shoulder ailments.
Julian Peterson (LB) 3/21/2006
NEWS: Peterson and the Seahawks reached a contract agreement on Tuesday, meaning the All Pro linebacker is headed from rival San Francisco to the NFC champions. The deal is for $54 million over seven years, with $18.5 million guaranteed.
NOTES:
Rocky Bernard (DT) 3/15/2006
NEWS: Bernard will return to the Seahawks with a three-year contract worth $13 million, including a $5.4 million signing bonus.
NOTES: Bernard recorded 8.5 sacks and recovered two fumbles for the NFC champion Seahawks in 2005. He has 114 tackles, 18.0 sacks and three fumble recoveries in 58 career games for Seattle.
Shaun Alexander (RB) 3/6/2006
NEWS: Alexander re-signed with the Seahawks for $62 million over eight years. The deal with the NFL rushing champion is the richest contract ever given to a running back. He will receive $15.1 million guaranteed.
NOTES: Alexander led the league with 1,880 rushing yards and an NFL single-season record of 27 touchdowns in helping the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl appearance last season.
Shaun Alexander (RB) 2/7/2006
NEWS: Alexander sprained his right foot in Sunday's 21-10 Super Bowl loss to the Steelers and his status is uncertain for the Pro Bowl on Sunday. The Seahawks' running back, who rushed for 95 yards on 20 carries in the defeat, will receive treatment leading up to his third consecutive Pro Bowl appearance. "If I can play, I'm going to play," Alexander said on Tuesday before flying to Honolulu.
NOTES: In 16 regular season games, the NFL's MVP rushed for 1,880 yards and 27 touchdowns on 370 carries. The Super Bowl marked the end of Alexander's Seattle contract, but the team has exclusive rights to work out a new deal until March 3, when the NFL rushing champion would then become a free agent.
Matt Hasselbeck (QB) 2/6/2006
NEWS: Hasselback was 26 of 49 passing for 273 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 21-10 Super Bowl loss to the Steelers. The Seahawks' quarterback completed a 16-yard TD pass to Jerramy Stevens in the third quarter.
NOTES: In 16 regular season games, Hasselback completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 3,459 yards and 24 touchdowns and had a passer rating of 98.2.
