Fiedler, a free agent, signed with Tampa Bay on Tuesday. The 34-year-old quarterback will compete for a backup job behind Chris Simms. Fiedler was sidelined most of 2005 after having surgery to repair his injured shoulder. He began a throwing program about a month ago. "I'm throwing three, four times a week right now, hoping to get to a point where I'm throwing it every day pretty soon, working up the strength and getting the range of motion back," Fiedler said. |

Fiedler played in just two games for the New York Jets last season and has also played for Miami, Jacksonville and Minnesota during his 10 career seasons. He has started 60 of his 77 career games, posting a 37-23 record and throwing for 11,844 yards, 69 touchdowns and 66 interceptions. The Bucs also have quarterbacks Tim Rattay, Jaren Allen and rookie Bruce Gradkowski on their roster. |

McCown will have surgery this week after partially tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a June 15 workout. The Buccaneers' backup quarterback was scrambling out of the pocket to his right and planted his foot to make a move upfield when the injury occurred. "I felt the pain and went down," McCown said. "It's a cut I've probably made a thousand times." |

McCown was a fourth-round draft pick by Cleveland in 2004 and made four starts that season, throwing for 608 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions. He was acquired by Tampa Bay in a draft-day trade in 2005. Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden said there is a possibility McCown could start the season on the physically unable to perform list. Tampa Bay may look to bring in a veteran to compete with Tim Rattay and Jared Allen to play behind starter Chris Simms. |

Boston signed a contract with Tampa Bay on Wednesday after missing the majority of the past two seasons with injuries. The 27-year-old wide receiver caught four passes for 80 yards in five games with the Miami Dolphins last season, before being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. Boston's best season came with Arizona in 2001 when he made 98 catches for 1,598 yards and eight touchdowns and was selected to the Pro Bowl. |
