Daniel Briere (Center) 8/3/2006
NEWS: The Buffalo Sabres have aggreed to pay Briere $5 million for next season on Thursday, after an arbitrator's ruling.
NOTES: Briere scored 25 goals with 33 assists in 48 games for the Sabres last season. The center missed eight games with an abdominal strain and then was sidelined for 24 contests due to a sports hernia and ensuing surgery on Jan. 5. Despite the setbacks, he returned to score eight goals and 19 points in 18 playoff games for the Sabres.
Maxim Afinogenov (Right Wing) 8/2/2006
NEWS: Afinogenov agreed to terms with the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, the team avoiding what could have been an expensive salary arbitration hearing with the forward.
NOTES: Terms of the deal were not immediately available, but it's anticipated that Afinogenov will receive a big raise over the $1.086 million he made in leading the Sabres with a career-high 73 points last season.
Paul Gaustad (Center) 7/31/2006
NEWS: Gaustad avoided salary arbitration with the Sabres, signing a two-year, $1.425 million contract Sunday. Gaustad, who will make $675,000 next season, received a slight raise over the $450,000 contract he made as an NHL rookie last season. He was scheduled to have his arbitration hearing Wednesday.
NOTES: A rugged center, who split time on the Sabres third and fourth lines last season, Gaustad finished with nine goals and 15 assists in 78 games. He added four assists in 18 playoff games in helping the Sabres reach the Eastern Conference final, which they lost in Game 7 to eventual Stanley Cup champion Carolina.
Tim Connolly (Center) 7/29/2006
NEWS: The Sabres and Connolly avoided salary arbitration, agreeing to a three-year contract Friday.
NOTES: Financial terms were not immediately available, but it's expected Connolly received a raise over the $1.03 million he made last season while registering a career-high 55 points.
Toni Lydman (Defense) 7/27/2006
NEWS: Lydman agreed to a four-year, $11.5 million deal with the Sabres on Thursday shortly before his arbitration hearing was scheduled to begin. A five-year NHL veteran, Lydman will make $2.3 million next season, $2.9 million in 2007-08 and $3.15 million in each of his final two years. He made $1.9 million last season.
NOTES: Lydman, 28, had one goal and 16 assists in 75 games with Buffalo last season, his first with the Sabres after spending four with the Calgary Flames. The defenseman has 20 goals and 90 assists in 364 career games.
Jason Pominville (Right Wing) 7/27/2006
NEWS: Pominville agreed to a three-year, $3.1 million contract Thursday to re-sign with Buffalo and avoid arbitration. The deal will pay Pominville $800,000 next season, $925,000 the following year and $1.375 million in the final year. He made $450,000 last season.
NOTES: Buffalo's second-round pick in the 2001 draft, Pominville emerged as a dependable third-line forward and power-play threat after opening last season in the minors. He finished second among Sabres rookies in scoring with 18 goals -- 10 on the power play -- and added 12 assists in 57 games.
Daniel Briere (Center) 7/23/2006
NEWS: Sabres captain Briere was awarded a one-year, $5 million contract by an arbitrator Sunday. The Sabres have 48 hours to decide whether they will sign Briere or allow him to become an unrestricted free agent.
NOTES: Briere earned $1.938 million last season, when he had 58 points in 48 games and added 19 points in 18 playoff games.
Andrej Sekera (Defense) 7/14/2006
NEWS: The Sabres agreed to terms on a three-year contract with Sekera on Friday. Sekera, 19, was a member Slovakia's team at the 2006 world junior championships, registering five points in six games.
NOTES: Sekera, Buffalo's third-round pick in the 2004 draft, was selected the Ontario Hockey League's outstanding defenseman this past season, finishing with 21 goals and 55 points while playing for Owen Sound. The 6-foot, 191-pound blueliner was also a first-team OHL All-Star.
Martin Biron (Goaltender) 7/13/2006
NEWS: Biron accepted the Sabres' one-year qualifying offer Thursday despite still seeking a trade from the club. The 28-year-old goaltender becomes Buffalo's only goalie under contract and will be paid $2.1 million this season.
NOTES: Biron played in 35 games last season for the Sabres, finishing with a 21-8-3 mark and a 2.89 goals-against average. He reeled off a franchise-record 13 straight victories when starter Ryan Miller was sidelined with a thumb injury.
Brian Campbell (Defense) 7/11/2006

Teppo Numminen (Defense) 6/29/2006
NEWS: Numminen underwent surgery to correct an irregular heartbeat this week and plans to re-sign with Buffalo. The surgery wasn't considered life-threatening and was anticipated after the heart condition caused the defenseman to miss one game during Buffalo's first-round playoff series with Philadelphia. Numminen's had a heart murmur since childhood and was diagnosed with a dilated aorta in March 2004.
NOTES: Numminen had two goals and 38 assists this season and finished second among Sabres defensemen in scoring, his best season since recording 48 points with Phoenix in 2001-02.

"I'm pretty sure they're going to be serious in trying to retain Danny for many years," Briere's agent Pat Brisson told The Associated Press.
NOTES: The Sabres' center led the team with 19 points in the playoffs, including eight goals and 11 assists. He recorded 25 goals and 37 assists during 48 regular-season games.
