Phoenix Coyotes 2005 News & Notes
Owen Nolan (Right Wing) 8/16/2006
NEWS: Nolan signed a one-year contract with the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday after sitting out last season recovering from right knee surgery. "His size, strength, goal-scoring ability and leadership will be a big asset to our team," Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky said.
NOTES: Nolan has not played in the NHL since the 2003-04 season with the Maple Leafs, when he scored 19 goals and 48 points in 65 games. The 34-year-old has 349 goals, 386 assists for 735 points and 1,600 penalty minutes in 915 career games during his 14-year career with the Quebec Nordiques (1990-95), Colorado Avalanche (1995), San Jose Sharks (1995-2003) and Toronto (2003-04).
Ladislav Nagy (Left Wing) 8/7/2006
NEWS: Nagy was awarded a one-year, $3 million deal by an arbitrator Monday and agreed to terms with the Phoenix Coyotes. Nagy was the Coyotes' leading scorer before injuring his right knee and missing the final 29 games of last season. The left wing underwent arthroscopic surgery on Feb. 3 to repair a partial tear of the lateral meniscus and fix a bone defect.
NOTES: Nagy finished last season with 15 goals and a team-high 41 assists. His 56 points ranked third highest on the team.
Mike Comrie (Center) 8/5/2006
NEWS: The Phoenix Coyotes avoided salary arbitration with Comrie, re-signing the center late Friday to a one-year $3 million deal. The agreement was reached just before an arbitration hearing was to begin in New York.
NOTES: Comrie had 30 goals and 30 assists in 80 games after being acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers. He has 103 goals and 14 career assists with three different NHL teams including the Edmonton Oilers.
Bryan Helmer (Defense) 7/19/2006
NEWS: The Phoenix Coyotes signed Helmer to a two-year contract Wednesday. The 34-year-old defenseman previously played with the Coyotes in 1998-99 and 2003-04. He has eight goals and 15 assists in 134 career games with Phoenix, the St. Louis Blues and the Vancouver Canucks.

NEWS: The Coyotes re-signed Saprykin to a one-year contract Sunday.
NOTES: Saprykin played in 67 games last season, finishing with 11 goals and 14 assists.
Matthew Spiller (Defense) 7/16/2006
NEWS: The Coyotes re-signed Spiller to a one-year contract Sunday.
NOTES: Spiller appeared in eight games for Phoenix last season.
Philippe Sauve (Goaltender) 7/16/2006
NEWS: The Coyotes re-signed Sauve to a one-year contract Sunday.
NOTES: Sauve played 13 games with the Calgary Flames and Coyotes last season, posting a 3-7 record and a 3.97 goals-against average.
Dennis Seidenberg (Defense) 7/13/2006
NEWS: Seidenberg signed a two-year contract Thursday to remain with the Coyotes. The 24-year-old defenseman played in 34 games for Phoenix last season after being acquired in the trade that sent Petr Nedved to Philadelphia in January. He had one goal and 10 assists for the Coyotes after totaling two goals and five assists in 29 games with the Flyers.
Fredrik Sjostrom (Right Wing) 7/13/2006
NEWS: Sjostrom signed a two-year contract Thursday to remain with the Coyotes. The 23-year-old right wing played in 75 games for Phoenix last season and had six goals, 17 assists and 42 penalty minutes. The former 2001 first-round pick has 13 goals and 23 assists in 132 career games.
Georges Laraque (Right Wing) 7/6/2006
NEWS: Laraque signed a two-year contract with the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday after playing the last eight seasons with Edmonton. The 29-year-old right wing had two goals, 10 assists and 73 penalty minutes in 72 games last season. His 826 career penalty minutes rank eighth in Oilers history and he has led the team in penalty minutes five different seasons.
NOTES: Laraque had 46 goals and 68 assists in 490 career games with Edmonton.
Jeremy Roenick (Center) 7/5/2006
NEWS: Roenick signed a one-year contract with the Phoenix Coyotes, the team said Tuesday. The free-agent center, an original member of the Coyotes, played five seasons with Phoenix from 1996-2001. He was hindered by injuries last season, recording nine goals and 13 assists in 58 games for Los Angeles.
NOTES: Roenick, a nine-time All-Star, has 484 goals and 1,142 assists in 17 NHL seasons.
Mike Morrison (Goaltender) 7/2/2006
NEWS: Morrison signed a one-year contract Sunday with the Phoenix Coyotes after playing 25 games last season for Edmonton and Ottawa.
NOTES: The 26-year-old Morrison made his NHL debut with Edmonton on Nov. 7 and went 10-4-2 with a 2.83 goals-against average in 21 games before being claimed off waivers by Ottawa on March 9. A native of Massachusetts, he posted a 1-0-1 record and a 3.47 GAA in four appearances with the Senators, including two starts.
Ed Jovanovski (Defense) 7/1/2006
NEWS: Jovanovski agreed to terms on a five-year deal worth $32.5 million with the Phoenix Coyotes, who pried the defenseman away from the Canucks on Saturday. "He was the player we wanted," Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky said in a statement. "This is huge for our franchise."
NOTES: Jovanovski, 30, ranked 11th among NHL defensemen in points per game last season with eight goals and 25 assists in 44 contests. He was selected by Florida with the first overall pick in 1994 and played with the Panthers until he was traded to Vancouver in the middle of the 1998-99 season. Jovanovski has 86 goals and 317 points in 687 career games.
Nick Boynton (Defense) 6/29/2006
NEWS: Two days after acquiring Boynton from Boston, the Phoenix Coyotes signed the defenseman to a three-year contract. Terms were not disclosed. The 27-year-old Boynton had five goals and 12 points in 54 games with the Bruins last season.
NOTES: Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky said Boynton will add a physical presence to the team. He was swapped for defenseman Paul Mara.
Nick Boynton (Defense) 6/27/2006
NEWS: Boynton was traded to Phoenix from Boston on Monday in exchange for Paul Mara. Boynton, a 27-year-old defenseman, had five goals and seven assists in 54 games for the Bruins last season. "You need only look at the physical components of the elite teams in the Western Conference to know that the addition of a young, hard-nosed, two-way defenseman is a plus for our hockey club," said Coyotes GM Michael Barnett, whose team also swapped draft picks with Boston.
NOTES: Boynton has 22 goals and 62 assists in 299 career games.
Curtis Joseph (Goaltender) 5/27/2006
NEWS: Joseph signed a one-year, $2 million contract to return to the Phoenix Coyotes for the 2006-07 season. The 39-year-old goaltender was 32-21 with a 2.91 GAA, four shutouts and a .902 save percentage in 60 games for the Coyotes in 2005-06.
NOTES: Joseph has 428 career wins to rank sixth all-time and is nine behind Jacques Plante for fifth. He has the most wins for any goaltender to never win the Vezina Trophy, as the league's top netminder.
Ed Jovanovski (Defense) 4/9/2006
NEWS: Jovanovski returned to the ice Saturday after missing 2 1/2 months following abdominal surgery and scored in overtime to give the Canucks a 3-2 win over the Flames. The Vancouver defenseman has seven goals and 22 assists in 40 games this season.
Steve Reinprecht (Center) 4/2/2006
NEWS: Reinprecht notched his first career hat trick, including the winner, in the Coyotes' 4-3 overtime victory over San Jose on Saturday night. That followed a two-goal performance against the Sharks on Thursday.
NOTES: Reinprecht had a power-play, short-handed and even-strength goal on Saturday. In 20 games since being acquired from Calgary, the Phoenix center has 11 goals and nine assists, and his 21 total goals this season are a career high.
Steve Reinprecht (Center) 3/31/2006
NEWS: Reinprecht scored twice in the Coyotes' 5-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. His second goal at 1:18 of the third period turned out to be the game-winner.
NOTES: Reinprecht has eight goals and nine assists in 19 games since being acquired from the Calgary Flames earlier this season. His 18 total goals in 71 games in 2005-06 are one short of his career-high 19, set with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001-02.
Jeremy Roenick (Center) 3/26/2006
NEWS: Roenick will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a fractured ankle in the Kings' 6-4 win over the Nashville Predators on Saturday.
NOTES: Roenick scored a career-low eight goals and 18 points and was a minus-8 in 48 games for the Kings this season. The Kings acquired the center from the Philadelphia Flyers during the offseason with a 2006 third-round draft pick in exchange for future considerations.
