J.P. Vigier (Right Wing) 8/7/2006
NEWS: Vigier re-signed with the Atlanta Thrashers Monday. The Thrashers right wing missed half of last season due to injuries. He finished last season with four goals and six assists in 41 games after missing 14 with a broken foot and the final 25 because of a knee injury.
NOTES: Vigier has 18 goals and 15 assists in five seasons with Atlanta.
Vitaly Vishnevski (Defense) 7/31/2006
NEWS: The Ducks signed defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski to a one-year contract, the team said Sunday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but were reached through arbitration, the team said.
NOTES: Vishnevski, 26, played in all of the Ducks' 82 regular season games last season and had one goal and seven assists. The native of Kharkov, Russia, was selected in the first round and fifth overall in the 1998 NHL draft.
Niko Kapanen (Center) 7/20/2006
NEWS: The Thrashers signed center Niko Kapanen to a multiyear contract on Thursday. Kapanen, who earned the league minimum $450,000 last season with Dallas, was acquired by the Thrashers with a draft pick for Patrik Stefan and Jaroslav Modry on June 24.
NOTES: The 28-year-old Kapanen had career highs of 35 points and 14 goals last sesason. He had 20 goals and 56 assists in four seasons with the Stars.
Kyle Wanvig (Right Wing) 7/18/2006
NEWS: Wanvig signed with the Atlanta Thrashers on Tuesday after recording four goals and eight assists in 51 games for Minnesota last season. The 24-year-old right wing has five goals and nine assists in 64 career games spanning three seasons, all with the Wild.
Mark Popovic (Defense) 7/13/2006
NEWS: The Thrashers re-signed Popovic on Thursday. The 23-year-old defenseman was scoreless in seven games with Atlanta last season, when he also played with Chicago of the AHL. He was acquired from Anaheim in 2005.
Colin Stuart (Left Wing) 7/13/2006
NEWS: The Thrashers re-signed Stuart on Thursday. The 24-year-old left wing is yet to make his NHL debut. He had 13 goals and 14 assists last season with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.
Steve Rucchin (Center) 7/4/2006
NEWS: Rucchin, an unrestricted free agent, signed with the Atlanta Thrashers on Monday. The 35-year-old center recorded 13 goals and 23 assists in 72 games for the New York Rangers last season, his only with the team.
NOTES: Rucchin, who spent his first 10 seasons with Anaheim, has 166 goals and 302 assists in 688 career games. He has tallied at least 50 points in five of his 11 seasons.
Glen Metropolit (Center) 7/4/2006
NEWS: Metropolit, an unrestricted free agent, signed with the Atlanta Thrashers on Monday. The 32-year-old center led Lugano to the Swiss National League Championship last season with nine goals and 18 assists in 17 playoff games. He led the league with 39 assists and 63 points during 44 regular season games.
NOTES: Metropolit has 10 goals and 37 assists in 103 career NHL games over parts of four seasons. He played most recently with Washington, notching two goals and three assists in 23 games during the 2002-03 season.
Fred Brathwaite (Goaltender) 7/4/2006
NEWS: Brathwaite signed with the Atlanta Thrashers on Tuesday after playing the last two years in Russia. The 33-year-old goalkeeper was 81-99-37 with a 2.73 goals-against average in nine NHL seasons with Edmonton, Calgary, St. Louis and Columbus. He played most recently with Ak-Bars Kazan of the Russian Super League.
Jason Krog (Left Wing) 7/4/2006
NEWS: Krog signed with the Atlanta Thrashers on Tuesday after playing the last two years in the Swiss National League and the Austrian League. The 30-year-old left wing has 18 goals and 34 assists in 175 NHL games with the New York Islanders and Anaheim spanning five seasons.
Darren Haydar (Right Wing) 7/4/2006
NEWS: Haydar signed with the Atlanta Thrashers on Tuesday. The 26-year-old right wing finished fifth in the AHL with 92 points in 80 games for Milwaukee last season. He played in two NHL games with Nashville during the 2002-03 season.
Johan Hedberg (Goaltender) 7/2/2006
NEWS: The Atlanta Thrashers have agreed with Hedberg on a two-year contract, according to general manager Don Waddell. Financial terms of the deal, announced Saturday night, were not disclosed.
NOTES: Hedberg, a native of Leksand, Sweden, is 66-67-1 with a 2.81 goals-against average in 156 career games with Pittsburgh, Vancouver and Dallas. The 33-year-old goaltender posted a 12-4-1 record and a 2.67 GAA in 19 games with the Stars last season.
Steve McCarthy (Defense) 6/30/2006
NEWS: McCarthy re-signed with the Thrashers on Thursday, earning a $775,000, one-year deal. The 25-year-old defenseman was acquired by Atlanta from Vancouver at the trade deadline and finished with seven goals and three assists in 16 games with the Thrashers. He'd recorded just six assists in 51 games with the Canucks.
NOTES: McCarthy, who's also played for Chicago, has 12 goals and 20 assists in 201 career games.
Niko Kapanen (Center) 6/25/2006
NEWS: Dallas traded Kapanen to Atlanta on Saturday for center Patrik Stefan, defenseman Jaroslav Modry and a first-round draft pick. Kapanen recorded 14 goals and 21 assists for the Stars during the 2005-06 season.
NOTES: Kapanen has 20 goals and 56 assists in 239 career games, all with Dallas.
Niclas Havelid (Defense) 6/7/2006
NEWS: The Atlanta Thrashers agreed to a three-year contract Wednesday with Havelid though financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. In his first season with Atlanta, the Thrashers' defenseman finished with four goals and 28 assists while appearing in all 82 games. He was also second among team defenseman in assists and third in both goals and points.
NOTES: Havelid was acquired from the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in a trade for Kurtis Foster in June 2004 and has recorded 28 goals and 89 assists in 392 games with the two teams.
Marian Hossa (Right Wing) 4/14/2006
NEWS: Hossa scored two goals and added two assists in the Thrashers' 5-3 win over the Capitals on Thursday.
NOTES: Hossa has 39 goals and career highs of 52 assists and 91 points, yet trails teammates Ilya Kovalchuk (98) and Marc Savard (97) in scoring. Atlanta is the only team in the NHL that has three players with 90 points.
Steve Rucchin (Center) 4/7/2006
NEWS: Rucchin sat out Thursday's game against the New York Islanders because of an injured right foot. He was hurt last Thursday in the Rangers' 4-1 loss at Ottawa, but did play Tuesday versus Philadelphia. The 34-year-old New York center, listed as day-to-day, has 13 goals and 23 assists in 72 games this season.
NOTES: In case Rucchin is out for an extended period of time, the Rangers recalled center Jarkko Immonen from Hartford of the AHL on Thursday and put him in the lineup against the Islanders. Immonen scored his first NHL goal in a 3-1 win.
Scott Mellanby (Right Wing) 4/6/2006
NEWS: Mellanby scored a power-play goal at 6:27 of the third period to help the Thrashers beat the Florida Panthers 5-2 on Wednesday. The win moved Atlanta within five points of eighth-place Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference.
NOTES: Mellanby, pondering retirement in his 20th NHL season, has 10 goals and 19 assists in 64 games for the Thrashers. For his career, he has garnered 350 goals and 799 points in 1,355 games.
Niko Kapanen (Center) 3/30/2006
NEWS: Kapanen's power-play goal in the second period proved to be the game-winner in the Stars' 2-1 win over the Anaheim Mighty Ducks on Wednesday.
NOTES: Kapanen has a career-best 11 goals to go along with 20 assists this season in 71 games. The 27-year-old Dallas center has played well of late, totaling six goals and four assists in his last 17 games, including his first career hat trick in a 5-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Feb. 9.
Steve McCarthy (Defense) 3/9/2006
NEWS: The Atlanta Thrashers acquired McCarthy from the Vancouver Canucks Thursday, in exchange for a conditional 2007 draft pick. In 51 games with the Canucks, the 25-year-old defenseman had two goals, six points and 43 penalty minutes.
