Modano took a hard hit to his head, then had to be helped off the ice midway through the third period of the Stars' 3-2 overtime loss to the Colorado Avalanche in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series Sunday. Modano returned for the overtime period and later said it was a clean hit. |

On the play he was injured, the Dallas captain had just given up the puck when Colorado defenseman Brett Clark charged into him. Clark's shoulder appeared to strike Modano around his face, spinning him around before he dropped to the ice. Modano will have plenty of time to recover during the offseason since his team was eliminated from the playoffs in the loss. |

Modano left Thursday's game against the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the second period with an apparent knee injury when he got tangled up with Anaheim forward Jonathan Hedstrom. The Dallas Morning News later reported that the injury isn't serious and Modano might skate at Friday's practice. |

The Dallas center scored his first extra-man goal in 1988 when the team was located in Minnesota and 17 years later, he passed Brian Bellows on the career list.
