The Buffalo Sabres have aggreed to pay Briere $5 million for next season on Thursday, after an arbitrator's ruling.

Analysis: Briere scored 25 goals with 33 assists in 48 games for the Sabres last season. The center missed eight games with an abdominal strain and then was sidelined for 24 contests due to a sports hernia and ensuing surgery on Jan. 5. Despite the setbacks, he returned to score eight goals and 19 points in 18 playoff games for the Sabres.
